Common refrigerator problems we repair
Not cooling, or cooling unevenly. The most common call we take. Usually a failed defrost system, a bad start relay, a condenser fan that's stopped, or a sealed-system fault. The fix ranges from a straightforward part swap to a larger job, and we'll tell you which before you commit.
Freezer works, fridge doesn't. Almost always airflow. A blocked damper, a failed evaporator fan, or frost built up where cold air should be moving between compartments.
Leaking water. Usually a clogged defrost drain or a cracked water line. Easy to miss, and left alone it warps flooring and rots cabinet toe kicks.
Ice maker stopped. Water inlet valves, the ice maker module itself, or a frozen fill tube. Common on Samsung and LG units in particular.
Running constantly. Door seals that no longer seal, dirty condenser coils, or a thermostat reading wrong. Often the cheapest repair on this list and the one that quietly costs the most in power.
Loud or unusual noise. Condenser or evaporator fan motors, or in some cases the compressor itself.
LG linear compressor replacement
LG's linear compressors have a well-documented failure history. If your LG refrigerator has stopped cooling entirely and you're hearing nothing from the compressor, this is the likely cause.
Many of these are still covered by LG's extended parts warranty, which means you may only pay labor. We do this repair regularly and can tell you where you stand before you order anything.
Before you call
Pull the fridge out and look at the condenser coils underneath or behind. If they're packed with dust and pet hair, vacuum them. A clogged coil makes the compressor work harder and is one of the most common causes of poor cooling — and it's free to fix yourself.
Also check the door seals. Close the door on a dollar bill. If it slides out easily, the seal isn't holding and you're losing cold air constantly.
Is it worth repairing?
An honest answer matters more here than a sale. If your refrigerator is under ten years old and the fault is a fan, valve, thermostat or control board, repair is almost always the better call. If it's older and the sealed system has failed, we'll say so plainly.
Refrigerator Repair FAQs
What does a refrigerator repair cost?
The diagnostic is $99 and comes off your repair if you go ahead. Final cost depends on the part. We quote the full price before any work starts.
How soon can you come out?
We prioritize same-day service where the schedule allows, and a refrigerator that's stopped cooling goes to the front of the line. Call and we'll tell you the soonest we can be there.
Do you repair garage refrigerators and chest freezers?
Yes. Garage units work harder through Utah's temperature swings and fail more often than kitchen refrigerators.
My fridge is 12 years old. Repair or replace?
Depends on the fault. We diagnose first, give you the repair cost, and tell you honestly whether it's worth it.
