Air Conditioning Installation in Salt Lake City

Most people replace an air conditioner in the middle of a heatwave, which is the worst time to make a considered decision.

If yours is struggling, the time to look at it is spring — not the first hundred-degree week in July, when every company in the valley is booked.

When replacement makes more sense than repair

Age. Most systems last twelve to fifteen years in this climate. Utah summers are hard on them.

Repeated refrigerant top-ups. Refrigerant isn't consumed. If it's low, there's a leak, and paying to refill it every year is money spent on nothing.

A failed compressor. Usually the most expensive single part, and on an older system it's often the point where replacement makes more sense.

R-22 refrigerant. Older systems use a refrigerant that's been phased out. It's expensive and increasingly hard to get, which changes the math on any significant repair.

Rooms that never cool properly. Sometimes the system was never sized right for the house.

Sizing matters more than brand

An oversized air conditioner cools the air quickly and shuts off before it has removed any humidity. The house feels cold and clammy, the equipment short cycles, and it wears out faster.

Undersized and it runs constantly without ever catching up.

Every installation we arrange starts with a load calculation and a look at your ductwork, so the system matches the house.

Systems we install

We install Goodman, Rheem and Carrier air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits.

Every install includes a matched condenser and coil, correct refrigerant charge, a new line set or a flush where required, and verified airflow before the job is signed off.

Heat pumps are worth asking about

A heat pump both heats and cools, and in Utah's shoulder seasons it runs considerably cheaper than a gas furnace. If you're replacing both your furnace and AC anyway, it's worth getting the numbers on a heat pump before you decide.

We'll tell you honestly whether it makes sense for your house. In some older homes with poor insulation, it doesn't. See heat pump repair

Before you call

Find the manufacture date on your outdoor unit — usually on a label on the side. Over twelve years old and replacement is worth considering.

Check whether the refrigerant type is listed. If it says R-22, that's relevant to any decision about repairing it.

And if it's still running but struggling, call in spring rather than July. You'll get a better appointment and more time to think. See AC repair

AC Installation FAQs

How do I know whether to repair or replace?

Age, what's failed, the refrigerant type, and how the repair cost compares to a new system. We give you both numbers.

What does a new AC cost?

It depends on the size of your home, the system you choose and your existing ductwork. We quote after a proper assessment, not over the phone.

Should I get a heat pump instead?

Possibly. They cost less to run in the shoulder seasons and they handle both heating and cooling. We'll tell you whether it suits your house.

Do you offer financing?

Not currently.

What brands do you install?

Goodman, Rheem and Carrier.

My system needs refrigerant every year. Is that normal?

No. Refrigerant isn't used up. If it's low there's a leak, and that's worth diagnosing properly.
