AC Tune-Up in Salt Lake City

Air conditioners fail in July, during the first run of hundred-degree days. Not because the heat breaks them, but because that's the first time all year they're asked to work hard.

A service in spring finds the weak parts while an appointment is still easy to get.

What we check

The capacitor, which is the single most common cause of an AC not starting and fails more often in extreme heat.

The contactor, refrigerant levels and pressures, and the condenser coil, which collects cottonwood fluff and grass clippings through the spring.

The condensate drain, which blocks and causes water damage indoors.

The blower, the filter and airflow.

Thermostat operation.

Low refrigerant means a leak

Refrigerant isn't consumed. A sealed system shouldn't lose any.

If your AC is low on refrigerant, there's a leak somewhere, and topping it up every spring is money spent on a problem that's still there. We find the leak instead. See AC repair

Before you call

Clear the area around the outdoor unit. Grass clippings, leaves and cottonwood fluff block the condenser coil, and you want a foot of clear space all around it.

Change the filter.

Then run the cooling for ten minutes and feel the air at a vent. If it's not noticeably cold, mention that when you book — it points at refrigerant rather than airflow.

Book it on its own, or as part of a bundle

We service air conditioners as a standalone job, or as part of our maintenance bundles. See routine maintenance

AC Tune-Up FAQs

How often should an AC be serviced?

Once a year, in spring before the cooling season.

When is the best time to book?

Spring. By the time the first heatwave arrives, every company in the valley is booked.

What does it cost?

Call us and we'll give you a price.

My AC works fine. Is a tune-up worth it?

It's how you find the capacitor that's about to fail or the coil that's slowly clogging. Both are cheap now and expensive in July.

Do you service heat pumps and mini-splits too?

Yes.
